Γιώργος Πολυχρονιάδης

Ο Γιώργος Πολυχρονιάδης γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1946. Μετά από ελεύθερες σπουδές, το 1965 εισήλθε στην Ανώτατη Σχολή Καλών Tεχνών οπού σπούδασε με καθηγητή τον Νίκο Νικολάου.

Στα θέματά του καταπιάνεται κυρίως με την ανθρώπινη μορφή και τη νεκρή φύση.

Παράλληλα με τη ζωγραφική ασχολείται πολύ δημιουργικά με την σκηνογραφία σε κεντρικά θέατρα της Αθήνας, στον κινηματογράφο και την τηλεόραση. Σε συνδυασμό με το ενδιαφέρον του για τη ζωγραφική μεγάλων επιφανειών, γίνεται από το 1975 τακτικός συνεργάτης της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής με την οποία συνεργάζεται ως σήμερα. Κατά την περίοδο αυτή έχει εκτελέσει πλήθος σκηνογραφιών σε όπερες της κεντρικής σκηνής και σε αρχαίες τραγωδίες στο Θέατρο Ηρώδου του Αττικού και την τηλεόραση.

Για μικρό διάστημα συνεργάστηκε με τον μεγάλο έλληνα ζωγράφο Γιάννη Τσαρούχη. Καρπός της συνεργασίας τους και μία από τις γνωστότερες τοιχογραφίες του, αποτελεί η οροφή του Αθηναϊκού REX η οποία εκτείνεται σε διάμετρο 11 μέτρων.

George Polichroniadis was born in Athens in 1946. He studied painting in the National School of Fine Arts with N. Nikolaou. Apart from studio-work, he also works as a scenographer for central theaters of Athens, cinema productions and the Greek television. 

In combination with his interest for large-scale painting, in 1975 he became a regular associate of the National Opera House, where he has executed the painting of stage sets for various opera productions and ancient tragedies in the theatre of ‘Irodou Atticou’.

One of his most well known frescos is the ceiling of the ‘Rex’ theatre in Athens (see below) which extends in a diameter of 11 meters. For a short period of time he worked with the great painter Yiannis Tsarouchis.

He has presented his work in various group and individual exhibitions in Athens and other major cities in Greece.
